Hello!

I am Franziska Bernadette, the creator and artist behind the Karlsruhe-based label. During my accessory design studies I discovered the beauty of basket weaving crafts which influenced my work in making unique special braided lights. My artistic practice is inspired by natures characteristics like birds nests, roots and interlocking branches.

My artwork stands for natural, minimal and unique design. I try to break free from traditional, rigidly woven weaving techniques to reinterpret and reinvent them. I braid very intuitively, resulting in spontaneous, organic weaving works. Bernadette is an interface between design and art where sculptural art peaces are used as functional everyday objects. Shapes and lines transforme every braiding work into a unique luminaire.

Design is creating a unique product by combining the functional object with the art object. In doing so, I distance myself from the throwaway society and the fast, cheap and short-term consumption. Therefore it is also of great importance to me to use natural raw materials that are robust, sustainable, longlasting and biodegradable. My peaces are made for those who love craftsmanship and are not only interested in the process of creation but also appreciate a long-lasting unique product. Bernadette stands for Slow Interior. Each rattan lamp is a unique piece and is made with precise handwork.

Ausstellung zum Paul-Heinrich-Ebell-Förderpreis

The special show of «Handwerk & Design» presents the most innovative works of young designers from all over the world and combines the most diverse design fields such as glass, textiles, jewellery, ceramics or furniture making. A total of 98 participants from 24 countries were selected by a jury of experts to show their work at the fair.

With my minimalist, scandinavian style lights I would like to add some cozy and unique athmosphere to your home. Whether ceiling, hanging or wall lamps, with the vintage light bulbs used, they all radiate a warm and cozy light and beautiful plays of shadow are projected onto the wall. The sculptural lamps can be easily combined with other interior styles and are a great special eye-catcher in every apartment.
